Riding Behind Steam, Volume 1
Frisco 1522

Volume 1 was recorded on June 6, 1993, behind one of the loudest locomotives to operate in mainline excursion service: St. Louis & San Francisco 4-8-2 #1522.

The recordings on this CD were made as #1522 pulled a Burlington Northern employee appreciation special over the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy line from Centralia to Sesser, Illinois, and return. The locomotive put on a great show, making loud departures from Centralia and Sesser. The Centralia departure featured the train accelerating out of town up Cravat Hill. The train also was forced to slow and resume track speed at several at grade crossings with other rail lines.

This CD runs over 70 minutes.

Frisco #1522 may have returned to static display at the Museum of Transportation, in Kirkwood, Missouri, but the memories of her excursion days live on in the sounds recorded here and in the hearts of her admirers.
